{September 06, 2007}   More abstract shooters (or shmups)

Following the path created by Kenta Cho, many other game developers, most of them Japanese, are doing really interesting and cute games. This time is HIZ the one selected. Even though his games don’t have the high speed feeling from Kenta’s, they definitely are interesting to play and really lovely visually:

As usual, I’ve developed packages for those games for Debian SID, but in this case they’ll probably take some time to get into Debian because it’s not totally clear that the music is DFSG-free, even though they’re gratis/free (as in beer) and they’re redistributable. Lets see how we solve that, if there’s no other way, we might need to replace those songs, we’ll see. They are coded in D language too, BTW.

[...] Nice to see some shooters for Linux. Even nicer to see HIZ get some more recognition. What would be great is to see more developers take these games and make more, as HIZ did with Kenta Cho’s original to make Torus Trooper Pure. [...]

hi miriam!

here are all my other patches for linux versions of d-games all together in one thread.
you don’t seem to have found at least my patches for area2048 and

Thanks Frostwork!!! :)

As you suggested, I’m having a look at isshiki’s games now ( http://homepage2.nifty.com/isshiki/prog_win_d.html ), Especially Grandle-Unison, Z-Lock and Area2048. It’ll probably take me some days to set up the skeleton for the games, but I’ll definitely start working from your patches. I’ll email you as soon as I’m in the situation of start doing myself the rest of the patching, it’ll be great to count with your help :)

Thanks for your wonderful patches, BTW!

Greetings,
Miry

[...] HIZ’s games Tatan, ProjectL and ES (ii-esu) have finally arrived to Debian repositories: tatan, projectl, ii-esu. Even though I’ve had some packages available for them for some time, I finally had to remove the music from them, as it wasn’t DFSG-free. The games are great anyway. They’re japanese abstract shooters of the style created by Kenta Cho, and also coded in D language. We had to rename “ES” to “ii-esu” (more or less its phonetical translation in japanese, AFAIK) as “es” was too much a generic game for a package and the binary. The next ones in my Indy Games TODO list are Linley Henzell’s Excellent Bifurcation and Garden of Coloured Lights. Miry @ 12:36 pm [filed under English, Debian Planet, Ubuntu Women] [...]
